Guardian Helps Minimise The Effects Of The Hot Brisbane Sun In Your Home

    Last updated 7 months ago

Excessive sun exposure is not only dangerous for your skin, but for your home furnishings as well. Installing custom made blinds, shutters or sunscreens in your home is not only beneficial for those who want to add style and insulation but also offers a bit of extra sun protection.

Home furnishings such as carpets and upholstery that are exposed to sunlight for long periods of time tend to fade, which not only looks unattractive but can end up costing you a lot of money in repairs and replacements. Replacing your faded furniture and carpets every few years is far less cost effective than spending money on a one-off sunscreen installation. Sun screens are similar to interior and exterior shutters except that they are set in place, negating the need to reposition them every time the sun gets too hot. Powder-coated aluminium sunscreens are specifically designed and positioned on the outside of windows to direct sunlight away from the house without blocking the light completely. This not only prevents deep sun penetration from fading your fabrics but also provides extra shade to keep your house cool in summer.

If you have an outdoor deck or patio area that is constantly targeted by the sun, making it almost impossible to use during the day, you might want to consider installing some plantation shutters. Made from durable aluminium, plantation shutters are the perfect addition to an outside deck or patio and can provide year-round protection from both the heat and the cold. Plantation shutters that are positioned around the outer edge of an existing patio or deck area have the ability to create an extra room as an extension to your house. Additions such as these are a stylish, convenient and cost effective way of adding extra space without having to perform a complete renovation.

    Different Shutter Mechanisms

    Last updated 7 months ago

When it comes time to install plantation shutters in your home, it is important to decide whether you are going to have visible tilt rods to adjust the slats or hidden control bars. This video describes the two different mechanisms available with all plantation shutters.

Some people prefer the look of plantation shutters that include a vertical tilt rod that they themselves operate to manually adjust the direction of their shutter slats. Others prefer the use of hidden control bars that mechanically direct all slats in the preferred direction when one is manoeuvred. Both mechanisms are extremely easy to use and have contrasting benefits.

Shutters that include a visible tilt rod have the benefit of looking more traditional; however the visible rod down the middle of the shutters can obscure a window outlook. A hidden control bar can modernise the look of plantation shutters by not including a visible slat; although this does not have the same classic appeal of a shutter with a tilt rod.

Screens Vs Shutters: Which Is Right For Your Home?

    Last updated 7 months ago

When it comes time to modernise or refurbish the look of your house with screens or shutters, you want to make sure that you not only get the best bang for your buck, but you pick the right style suitable for your home. Screens and shutters are both excellent additions to any home and come with many pleasing features, but which one is right for you?

There are many advantages of using sun screens to protect your home from the damage of UV rays. Not only do aluminium aerofoil shutters look great on the exterior of your home, but they are also extremely versatile. Adjustable sun screens are popular for those looking for a screening device that can be controlled from the inside of their home. The control bar allows you to decide whether you want full sun to filter through your windows in winter, or block out the harsh rays in summer. Although sun screens are relatively modern, if you are looking for window dressings that have more of a design appeal aluminium plantation shutters might be best for you.

Aluminium plantation shutters are a favourable addition to windows, doors and decks that are in need of a little refurbishing. An otherwise run down home can be rejuvenated by adding stylish, low maintenance plantation shutters. The appeal of shutters in most homes is their flexibility; they provide much needed ventilation during temperate months as well as acting as a shield to prevent the sun from damaging home furnishings. Their simple design is suited to most tastes as plantation shutters can complement almost any home design or layout. They are also popular additions to patios and decks that are not being used because of harsh weather conditions.

Rod and his team did a great job in advising on the external plantation screen design and following through with prompt and quality installation. The flyscreen was a great addition, which makes it great for letting the air/light in but keeping out the mossies. Only a few companies provide the flyscreen option for external plantation shutters. ... More
